The employees of Procter & Gamble are committed to making every day better for consumers around the world. We are a global company with more than 100,000 employees and 5 billion consumers world-wide. While consumer needs and habits vary from country to country, the environment is a common thread that ties us all together. That is why we take a global approach to environmental quality. Our Global Environmental Management System brings a consistent focus to this hard work.

Procter & Gamble has a long-standing commitment to maintain a safe work environment for our employees and minimize the impact of our operations to the environment. Our environmental programs are managed by qualified employees on site, and are actively supported by the participation of all employees, management, and a strong corporate staff.
The main goal of the environmental program is prevention. In support of this, we continually strive to improve the environmental quality of our products, packaging, and operations around the world. This includes: CAER Drill For each of the past 10 years, we have held a Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER Drill). Just as schools conduct fire drills, the purpose is to fine tune the procedures we would use in the unlikely event of an emergency. Typically, the entire plant is shut down, everyone is evacuated, and the Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC), State Police, Fire Department, and Ambulance Service, respond as if it were a real emergency. This allows us to work together as a team, and identify ways to respond even faster and more effectively. Even though we have never had a major incident since the site’s startup 30 years ago, these drills are an important part of our overall Safety Program. Emergency Response Team Alexandria has had an Emergency Response Team since the plant started in 1969. We currently have thirty members on the team who volunteer their service. Some members have as much as 10 years of service on the team. The team receives training for response to fire, medical, chemical and confined space emergencies. A full 8 hours of training is conducted by a certified instructor on site each month. Members receive additional fire and Hazmat training at the LSU Fire School in Baton Rouge and at other U.S. emergency training facilities. We also train members to handle high-angle associated emergencies and rescues which involve a high altitude or other special rescue. We are proud to say that some of our ERT members are also volunteers at their local fire departments which protect the areas in which they live. Safety Program The three goals of the Health, Safety, and Environment Department are to: Using a method called "Key Element Assessments," we compare our equipment, procedures, and results with Corporate requirements. Corporate requirements are more stringent than any legal obligations. This method of evaluating ourselves gives us a perspective on how we can continually improve our capability. In addition to ongoing improvements in our existing Safety Programs, we work very closely with Construction and Project Teams during new installations. This ensures that we install the safest equipment in the safest manner and operate it with the safest procedures. In each of the past 3 years, the site has received awards for outstanding results in our Health, Safety, & Environmental programs. The foundation of our success is the 100% participation by the people who operate and maintain our equipment, and over 40 technicians in Safety leadership roles.
